Curt is Chicago native – but don’t hold that against him. After stops in Madison and California, he and his wife moved to Waukesha in 2004 to open their own downtown business.

Operation "Clear Up"

It’s important to me that some confusion regarding the recent street cleaning in downtown Waukesha gets cleared up.

Actually- it is not probably as important to me as I feel it is important for credit to go where credit is due.

It was recently suggested that a new street sweeper purchased by the Downtown Business Improvement District was the reason the streets were so clean in recent days.

Let me start by saying if the Business Improvement District purchased a new street sweeper since the last Common Council meeting, then a true Christmas Miracle has just taken place in the City of Waukesha!

Nothing happens that fast in this City.

Project “Sweep” (I believe I referred to it as “Operation Clean Sweep”) deserves every bit of credit it has coming for a job well done.

They are the ones who diligently cleaned the streets, gutters, and parking lots down here in November.

And they were back in action again this past Saturday on the streets of downtown Waukesha.

This weekend they traded in their brooms for shovels and headed out to remove some of the snow from Friday’s big storm.

Officer Tim Probst of the Waukesha Police Department, who heads the project, said the kids and volunteers worked extremely hard to help clear large amounts of snow from some of the trouble spots downtown.

Their hard work was greatly appreciated.

The Winter Art Crawl took place Saturday and “Sweep” helped clear snow and ice from the sidewalks and from around fire hydrants just in time for the Crawl visitors to enjoy the event.

I spoke with Officer Probst later that evening and he said the group will continue to meet each Saturday and assist Waukesha city-wide with a variety of projects from street cleaning to shoveling to hanging Christmas lights.

“Sweep” is an outstanding program lead by people who obviously care a great deal about the community they live in.

You have my continued thanks and support.
