Over-employment in Shorewood?

I was shopping on North Oakland again this afternoon.  It wasn't raining but a bit wet and sort of sloppy for construction work; yet I saw one worker and a truck.

There was evidence of fresh concrete, so I'm sure that there must have been more than one worker earlier. The bolts in what seemed to be curred concrete indicate that the light standards could be installed at almost anytime.

This was close to four o'clock, so in all fairness, some of the workers might have finished their day's work.

But here is a case where we need a surge of workers. Is there too much work here that Americans won't do?

I'm sure that the labor force could be expanded. We should be told the name of this firm so that they might get proper and public evaluation when its all done, if it all gets done.

Hi Joe

I guess you haven't been reading my blogs for the past couple months :-(

It is not that there aren't enough workers --- there is NO organization, and it seems that NO ONE IS IN CHARGE.

As I had outlined in my blogs 1) When they took out the benches and trash receptacles on North Oakland Avenue --- there was not reason to do so, as they weren't obstructing any work.  2) When they posted NO PARKING for several weeks along Oakland during Business Hours -- they did so, despite the fact that NO WORK was being done  3) Since they broke ground for the new field at SHS --- they have been transporting our teams and band all over creation --- but NO WORK has started  4) They decided to close the SHS parking lot After School Started ----------- I could go on ad nauseum ......... but with NO ONE in CHARGE, what difference does it make !!

Dave:  this is my reply to your comments.  I didn't intend to debate anyone, certainly not you.  But this is also a sort of explanation to the readers as well.

Construction especially like the elongated type as we have on Oakland appears without design, order and goal, I agree with you.  But my experience with construction as a former Director of University Planning and Construction for UWM and with other communities with similar projects, seems to ennately put me on the side of client vs. contractor.

Once a contract is signed as you know, and this is for the sake of the readers, it becomes the contractor whose in charge unless the contract indicates otherwise.  There's only so much direction or pressure one can put on a contractor, if the client doesn't want to go to court.

Scheduling requires all kinds of predictions, timing and coordination that is usually beyond the control of anyone, as to when and where the contract is going to start and with what speed.  Weather is another unpredictable and how it is to be accommodated.  Where various trades are involved a certain order and certain traditions take over.

Of course, you know all of this.  In the case of Oakland, the contractor has evidently found himself in a condition of giving priority to other projects involving much more liability and therefore isn't giving Shorewood the attention that we might expect.

I'm presently hesitating to sign a contract with a kitchen remolding firm, for then I'm going to lose control over living in my home the way I want, until the project is done.  My critic is going to be my soul mate.

We as the citizens of Shorewood become the critics.     Practical people might want to suggest doing something at this point or in the future?  I certainly am not going to at this time.  I think we can only make the best of it for now.  Therefore, I'm waiting until the project is done.
