Curmudgeon's Corner

cur-mud-geon: anyone who hates hypocrisy and pretense and has the temerity to say so; anyone with the habit of pointing out unpleasant facts in an engaging and humorous manner

I Don't Know About You, But...

By Al Campbell

I will vote for John McCain for President with a clear conscience where, I must confess, I had been feeling a little remorse because I would, for the first time in a long time, be voting for the 'lesser of evils'.  I am no longer voting for the lesser of evils.  I am a solid supporter and I love his VP selection.

Sarah Palin is like you and me.  She is a real person; she went to high school with other real people; she played ball like other real people.  She owns a gun and loves to hunt and fish.  She is educated as a journalist...but, I'll still cast my ballot proudly.

The liberals have been instantly relegated to name-calling.  That tells me just how good this selection was on John McCain's part.  Sarah's husband, Todd, has an arrest for DUI.  How many of us were a flashing light away from such an experience at one time in our lives?  Her daughter is pregnant at the age of 17.  How many real families go through similar experiences each year in our country?

Sarah Palin runs a state; she is commander-in-chief of the Alaska National Guard.  She has more executive experience than the two candidates on the opposing ticket.  She has had run ins with her state's good ole boys and they lost.  They were also, in several instances, members of her own political party.

Sarah Palin scares the bejeebers out of the liberals.  She is their very worst nightmare come true.  While they try to paint Joe Biden as 'Joe Lunchbucket", she has lived the 'lunchbucket' life, just like many of us have or still do.

Among the things that concern the liberals is this simple fact: she not only talks the talk, she walks the walk!  She is true to her philosophy; she does not have to remember who she is for this audience or that audience.  Sarah Palin is who she is, and we can like it or lump it!

Sarah Palin has some hurts coming from the press and the liberal blogosphere.  But, do you want to know something?  She's been there and done that, too!  She has scrubbed her knees and walked away the stronger for it.  She isn't hiding anything about herself or about her family.  And, they'll come through this just fine, maybe a bit wiser, but just fine.  Because they are all real people.

Like you and me, they have their flaws and their scars and their regrets...and their faith.  I'd love to see "Sarah Barracuda" running up and down the hallways of Congress.  Those people need a dose of "real"!

"cur-mud-geon: anyone who hates hypocrisy"

My definition of hypocrisy is to support a political party that toutes family values and responsibility, yet allows exceptions - why is it OK for Palin's family to drive drunk and be teenage mothers?  Would you extend the same exceptions to black inner city families?  I doubt it!

Drunk driving ticket was 20 years ago when he was 22.  I will go out on a limb and say 75% of 22 year olds were not too smart and drove drunk.  He got caught and paid the price.  Has he had any OWIs since then? As for the teenage mom, it's a mistake and every family (democrat, Republican, libertarian etc) has had mistakes. The hypocrisy would be if the child went out and got an abortion.  I think this is the liberals trying their hardest to find some type of dirt and this is the "best" they have found so far.  I am sure they'll find something else just as the Republicans will find something on Obama or Biden.

So you must be perfect.  Just because one supports family values doesn't mean that a person is not going to make a mistake.  So are the Pallin's supposed to disown their child because she got pregnant in spite of her parents views?  What does Pallin's daughter being pregnant have to do with inner city black families?

I can draw a general distinction, which is, she plans on marrying the father and raising the child with both parents.

Why is it that only democrats can make moral mistakes?  Nobody's perfect, which is excellently illustrated by your very own hypocrisy.

You lefties are both amusing and desparate at the same time.

ANN23 I don't think we want to get into exceptions lord knows how many certain democrats have. The way I read the above is that these issues were brought out in the open and I can't see anyone begging to allow an exception. Over the weekend I heard someone say the more you hear people bashing/looking for more dirt means the Dems are grasping and justifiably concerned.

Concerned,

The "general distinction" you draw proves your bias.  Just because Sarah Palin *said* her daughter is going to marry the father and raise the child with two parents doesn't mean it is going to happen in real life.  It just makes for any easy verbal way out of a conservative's moral dilemma.  I find the whole situation hilarious.  If conservatives spent more time defending *all* people who make mistakes (other than those that look and speak like they do...and are running for Republican office in a very competitive election year) the world would be a better place.

Here is the summary of the Hypocrisy - ABSOLUTE ABSTINENCE.  Republicans are spending over $80 Billion on ABSOLUTE ABSTINENCE education in our schools.  Not providing real sex education - which would have taught Palin's daughter about birth control.  How hypocristical is it of all the Republicans looking the other way on this MORAL issue.  Mr. McCain and Mrs. Palin are hypocrits as are most Republican Politicians - who of course claim to be the mral majority of America - Yet shall we include this in the list of the likes of Mark Foley, Jim Gibbons and Ted Haggard - Here is a link to prove to you the GOP is not as moral as you would like to think - www.dkosopedia.com/.../Republican_Sex_Scandals

Remember this - Curmudgeon's Corner is just another SLANTED REPUBLICAN EXTREMIST in disguise.

You lefties are terrified of this woman, which I find simply hilarious.  How does the pregnancy of the child of a VP candidate have any impact on that candidate's ability to adequately perform the duties of the office they are seeking?

It truly is a private family matter.  What's Palin supposed to do?  I recall a certain Al Gore wisely campaigning against illegal drug use, even though his own son has had more than one drug bust.  Of course that would qualify as "hypocrisy" with some of you.  Of course there was no hand wringing or media rectal exam of those incidents because it didn't involve a Conservative.  Go ahead and vote for your unqualified Barack Hussein Obama, because I still will cast my ballot for the better Presidential Candidate, John McCain.  In a few short weeks I guess we'll find out how everyone else voted.

Just because one teaches absolute abstinence doesn't mean every child will follow it.  People have always, and will continue to make mistakes.  Is it likewise "hypocritical" to spend so much money on anti-drug programs such as "DARE" just because thousands of children ignore what they're taught in such programs and abuse drugs anyway?

Why do you assume this particular girl made a mistake?  How do you know she didn't "choose" to have a child?  How is it your business anyway?

How do we know that she didn't use birth control?  If I am not mistaken there is only one birth control that is proven to work 100% of the time and that is abstinence

Let me see if I understand the situation.

At the DNC, liberals cried tears as one of their best leaders, Ted Kennedy, said his goodbyes to politics. Yes Ted Kennedy, the man who KILLED a woman in a car by letting her sufficate to death without attempting to get help as that would ruin his career. Followed by Bill Clinton who disgraced the office by having an affair with a young female intern in the oval office and then lied about it under oath. And then there is John Edwards...

So VP candidate Palins daughter is expecting a child out of wedlock. Big deal. If she was a liberal celebrity

like Jamie Lynn Spears it would be just fine, but because she is the daughter of a republican it is awful.

So libs, shut up.

Wow - one mention of Palin and this blog comes to life!

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. And don't tell me you don't know someone in your circle of friends and family that hasn't driven drunk or had a child out of wedlock. Please.

I think Palin a great pick and it certainly bodes well that McCain is going to the agent of real change, and not the other guy who just talks about it, but doesn't give any specifics.

The leftists here are typically clueless and mean-spirited, resorting to impugning the integrity of thoughtful, intelligent people because we disagree.
