Brookfield Happening Now

A resident of Brookfield since 1986, I have lived in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Ohio and settled in the Milwaukee area in 1978. I think I can see issues from many different perspectives.

Thanks for the comments

That is what I hope for on this blog - comments. Further, my hope is that they will all be positive in nature. Let assure you that I will listen to and respond to every comment regarding what is happening in Brookfield. We may not agree on an issue or two, but I really want to know how everyone feels.

As to a comprehensive platform, I am for encouraging business in Brookfield. Businesses help keep the tax burden on the residents lower.

Brookfield is suffering from a lack of land to be newly developed and as a result I favor of redevelopment as long as it fits within the parameters set by the community in the 2020 Master Plan. That is not to say that plan can not be altered to better reflect necessary change.

I feel it is an Alderman's first duty is to represent the district that elected that Alderman. But the ultimate responsibility is to envision what is good for the entire community.

Again, your comments are vitally important to the forming or reformation of any platform.

What is your position on dealing with the greater burden on our roads, fire, police, water systems that is brought with business?

What about environmental standards?

What about zoning, and whether or not we should have skyscrapers?

I've asked for a comprehensive plan, so hopefully that is what we will see in the coming weeks.

Welcome to the blogging world Jack, look forward to hearing your platform.  One off the wall question though, as it was mentioned to me and garnered my interest.  As a candidate for elected office, can you run a no-cost blog funded by Brookfieldnow.com, and not run afoul of campaign finance laws, as well as 'equal time' issues with the media?  Just looking out for you!

Just what we need...another alderman that favors business.  The lie that it lowers taxes is falling on deaf ears.  We aren't getting any benefits out of the TIFs that have been created, but they are increasing the cost of services that homeowners are paying for.  I'm not in your district, but if I were I would NEVER vote for you!  Since Bloomberg decided to put us on the road to becoming Gotham City, the quality of life has deteriorated in Brookfield...and that's a fact, Jack!  If you think this is not a "positive" quote, remember it has to be judged from one's perspective.

I POSITIVELY agree with BRKFLDDAD and INTEWEDM.  I'll be voting for the incumbent.

Jack, a lot of people like to down play the importance of commerce and commercial zoning. Not really realizing there short vision. You as a member of the business community can really come forward and support commerce through being an Alderman with a great back round to be able to address those who object to commerce.

It provides jobs for ALL of us including those that object to it. The draw bridge syndrome. Not in my back yard, Tif District does nothing for me (selfish attitude). Brookfields commercial base provides great tax relief for the residential sector. Take the commercial tax base out of our total real estate value and watch the taxes go through the roof. There right under the roof right now with it. Homes never pay for them selves in a tax base. The Elmbrook school referendum really proves that.I don't see any commercial TIF district looking for 62 million dollars that asks the citizens to pay for it. Tif Districts do pay for themselves.

Theorize once, take the commercial zoning out, replace it with housing. What do you have just a larger school system which is the largest part of the tax base. Houses never pay for them selves.

The Quality of life here in Brookfield has been greatly improved with all the commercial development. Mayor Bloomberg had great vision for stepping forward and encouraging the commercial development that we have today. I really have to support you having this blog. As you know Tom Gehl, Elmbrook School Board member also has a blog and he is great to exchange views with. Provides great accurate information on items of interest to him. Good Luck with your election campaign. I will look forward to seeing your point of view on matters of interest to all of us.

As usual, Larry comes on with the contrarian view.  Who are you anyhow?  You are not a "man of the people"!

TWEETY! Are you questioning Larry's gender here? Common, don't become repulsive till after the election - as is our convention.
