Chill on the Hill introduces Kids & Family Night

By Bay View Neighborhood Association
Wednesday, Jul 30 2008, 09:30 AM

by Jenn Rollings and Dana Jones

The Bay View Neighborhood Association in proud partnership with the Milwaukee County Parks is excited to announce the addition of Kids & Family Night to the Chill on the Hill concert series, taking place Tuesday, August 5th.  Inspired by National Night Out, the BVNA has assembled an evening of musical entertainment and informational booths for the entire family.  Festivities begin at 6:00pm with a demonstration by the Shape Up Shoppe followed by a double-bill of music.

The Chickadees have just released their first CD of fun and educational children’s music, “Songs from the Great Outdoors” which toddlers and children enjoy.  Comprised of a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and professional vocalist, the trio decided to “slow down” and focus their talents on inspiring children to have fun, be silly and learn through music.  Learn more at thechickadees.net.

WAMI award-winning band The Figureheads will wrap up the evening with music that’s entertaining, spirited and inspiring;  kids through college students are sure to enjoy.  Check out The Figureheads, listen to their music and buy CDs at figureheadsinc.org.

In addition to fantastic children’s music, kids will be able to meet the famous Klement’s sausage mascots and Bella the Fat Cat or try the Milwaukee Wave’s “Speed Kick” game.  There will also be face-painting, park bench painting, popcorn, community organization booths and more!

Chill on the Hill is a family-friendly free concert series taking place every Tuesday night all summer long at the Humboldt Park bandshell.  Whether a fan of jazz, country, rock, folk or reggae, Chill on the Hill has something for everyone.

Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or a blanket and spread out on the grass to enjoy the evening festivities.  The Milwaukee County Parks concessions truck will have brats and Miller Chill beer for sale among other tasty treats.  For more information on Chill on the Hill, visit bayviewneighborhood.org.

Chill on the Hill’s Kids & Family Night is generously sponsored by Dover Street School.  Located at 619 E. Dover Street, the Dover Street School has been providing excellence in education and a special “city within a school” environment to Milwaukee’s south side for over a century.  More information on Dover Street School can be found at www2.milwaukee.k12.wi.us/dover/.

The BVNA wishes to thank event sponsors Miller Chill, Bay View Homes, Columbia St. Mary’s Bay View Family Health Center, Apple A Day Massage, Bird Ladder, OnMilwaukee.com, 88.9 Radio Milwaukee, Community Now Newspapers, Shepherd Express and Global Union World Music Festival.
