Greetings Regarding America in Bloom!
Thanks to each of you for your interest and support of our “America in Bloom” initiative: “Planting Pride in our Community”! As you know, we have entered this national beautification campaign and contest that promotes beautification and community involvement. Greendale has already been doing so many of the things that the judges look for because for 70 years Greendale has known what it takes to provide a quality of life experience for its residents. The founders and families who have lived here over the past 70 years have known what it takes: a village working together for its own overall betterment. Each of you has taken a step further in working for that overall betterment by stepping forward to be a part of this initiative. We thank you!
1) We have a list of committees for fine tuning our community for the judges’ visit on Wednesday/Thursday, June 25 and 26, 2008! This information was taken from initial meeting data….some of you may not want to work on more than one….please let us know what group you’d like to work with. Some of you are included (many of the school groups) because you have/or you will be putting together a program/clean-up opportunity to better our community…we want to acknowledge your commitment. You are also welcome to do more if you are interested!!! 2) Here’s a list of upcoming meetings in anticipation of our preparation for the judges’ visit to our community. We will be looking for updates as to what has been accomplished or what will be coming up that you and/or your organization are planning.

3) We have a list of all the areas that have been identified as needing attention in our preparation. There are many areas that need debris pick up, weeding, painting, etc. If you and/or your organization would be so kind as to look over the list of projects that need to be done, and email or call us with what you are willing to commit to, we’d be most appreciative. We are confident that all will be accomplished with the strong community involvement…just let us know what area fits with your organization!

4) Mark your calendars for Wednesday, June 25, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. we will be spinning old time records and have a live duo, Diamonds & Martinis, performing at the Gazebo. Bring your lawn chair/blanket and Ferch’s will have their ice cream wagon available to purchase a treat….let’s show those judges what a truly “quaint” community Greendale is!
5) Also, a reminder that this upcoming Saturday, May 17th there are two projects occurring that could use support and work. The Greendale DPW is sponsoring the Dale Creek clean-up of the area behind the businesses on the east side of Broad Street (from Northway to Schoolway). If you can help pull weeds, clean the creek area, bring your gloves, rakes, etc. and meet at the Bridge between Ferch’s and Lotions and Potions between 9:00-11:00 a.m.
6) At the Municipal Parking Lot, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. we’ll have a “Free” Perennial Plant Exchange. You will find loving homes for those lilies, daisies, coneflowers, daffodils, tulips and other plants or bulbs needing to be thinned and perhaps you’ll find the one plant (or two) you’ve been looking for. Plants should be in a small pot or container, and each plant (or group of plants) should be clearly labeled with its common name written in dark ink. Bring your own plastic or paper bags to take your treasures home.
Again, we are grateful for your support and interest. We hope to see those who can make a meeting this Wednesday, May 14th at 5:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the Greendale Public Library…if not this Wednesday, then one of the future dates. Feel free to contact either of us with your level of commitment, (if you’re unable to attend the meeting.)
Spring has sprung….and so are we ready to move our projects forward.
